KINSTON – Hundreds of manufacturing jobs paying an average minimum wage of some $45,000 are headed to Kinston.

MasterBrand Cabinets is going to invest some $13.75 million to expand its current operations in the Lenoir County city. Some 464 jobs are planned.

The N.C. Department of Commerce’s Economic Investment Committee approved nearly $4 million in state tax incentives for the project titled “Road Runner.”

The agreement with the state requires that current jobs in Kinston be retained and new job creation targets be met in order for the company to receive rebates on employee state witholding taxes. The site focuses on making wood cabinets.

MasterBrand said the expansion is needed to meet growing customer demand.

The Indiana-based firm considered expansion at other sites, including Indiana and Illinois.

Other incentives include community college training valued at $766,000 and $950,000 from Kinston as well as Lenoir County.
