RALEIGH – The top 10 CEOs at public companies in North Carolina earn on average $18 million a year in total compensation for 2018.

That’s according to data about companies that are part of the Russell 3000 stock index that was provided in Securities and Exchange Commission filings about compensation as required by federal law and published by the AFL-CIO.

CEOs earn 287 times what workers make; 7 NC firms are at or above that ratio

Top pay package for 2018 went to Doug Lebda of Charlotte-based LendingTree, a company he founded, at more than $42 million.

In the Triangle, the best compensated executive was Ari Bousbib at life science giant Iqvia. He received more than $16 million. Iquvia operates dual headquarters in Durham and Connecticut. Iqvia includes the former Triangle firm Quintiles.

Top tech executive in terms of pay was Jim Whitehurst, CEO at Red Hat. He netted nearly $14 million ahead of Red Hat’s recently closed $34 billion merger with IBM. Whitehurst stands to make millions more if he fulfills retention requirements in his contract agreement with IBM.

Top paid female CEO was Duke Enery’s Lynn God at just under $14 million.
