Vendor revenue in the worldwide server market grew 7.5% year over year to $25.4 billion during the fourth quarter of 2019, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker.

Worldwide server shipments grew 14.0% year over year to just over 3.4 million units in 4Q19, the Tracker reports.

Volume server revenue was up 12.1% to $19.7 billion, while midrange server revenue declined 14.1% to $3.3 billion and high-end systems grew by 8.9% to $2.4 billion.

Lenovo increased its market share from 5.6% in Q4 2018 to 6.2% in 2019, but its 2019 Q4 revenue of $1,417.6 millions decreased 2.6% from 2018. The company is among the top five vendors in number of shipments in Q4 2019 at 233,819 units. Lenovo’s US Global Headquarters are located in Morrisville, NC.

IBM, which has a substantial campus in Research Triangle Park, increased its Q4 server revenue by 17.6% to $2,295.2 millions and its market share increased from 8.2% in Q4 2018 to 9.6% in 2019.
