Cisco’s reported acquisition of cloud intelligence startup ThousandEyes for as much as $1 billion is hardly the only deal being made by tech giants during the COVID-19 pandemic. So too are Apple and Microsoft.

Venture capital and financial research site CB Insights reports that Apple has made five buys so far this year, four since the start of the pandemic.

And Microsoft has made two deals.

The latest Apple deal is artificial intelligence startup Inductiv, CB Insights reports.

“The startup’s team will reportedly work on Siri and machine learning projects for the tech giant. This is Apple’s fifth disclosed acquisition this year,” CB Insights says.

Other deals:

  • Weather app Dark Sky
  • Speech recognition startup Voysis
  • Virtual reality event streaming company NextVR

“[Apple]  is reportedly taking advantage of compressed valuations due to the pandemic to buy companies cheaply,” CB Insights says.

Microsoft, meanwhile, has acquired:

  • Massachusetts-based 5G cloud startup Affirmed Networks for nearly $1.4B
  • IoT cybersecurity startup CyberX for $165M
