RALEIGH – Cary is the top city in the US when it comes to women achieving success, a new study says. Durham and Raleigh also score well.

In its third such study “Cities Where Women are Most Successful,” financial information site SmartAsset ranks Cary best for women in achievements such as education, income and business ownership, giving Cary a perfect 100 score. No other city scored higher than 98.

Cary scored well across sixth or better across the five metrics considered for the study including:

  • No. 2 in women earning a college degree at 68%
  • No. 6 in percentage of women business owners at nearly 54%

Women earn a median income of nearly $62,000 with more than 38% earning high incomes. And share of income needed for housing came in at under 28%.

“We are extremely proud to be home to such an impressive group of female leaders and business owners,” Mark Lawson, vice president of Economic Development, told WRAL TechWire. “Cary prides itself on being business-friendly and is excited to see it reflected in this accolade. We are honored to have such amazing women who choose to do business in Cary and will continue to place great value in being a community that attracts and retains strong talent.”

Raleigh ranks No. 5 for ‘highest-earning’ female entrepreneurs in US; NC ranks No.15

“All three cities crack the top 30 for their percentage of women with a bachelor’s degree, at more than 50%,” SmartAsset notes.

Durham came in ninth with a score of 86.25 and Raleigh 24th at 76.90. The Triangle cities slipped slightly from the 2019 study in which they ranked sixth and 23rd respectively.
