Correction: Apple stores at Crabtree Valley Mall, Southpoint have remained closed

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Apple has not reopened its stores that were shut in the Triangle due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A story about them having reopened and then closed is incorrect.

The stores are located at Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh and Southpoint in Durham.

Websites for the outlets say the stores will remain closed at least through July 1.

WRAL TechWire incorrectly reported last week that the stores had reopened.

Apple closed its stores in Charlotte last week, citing the resurgence in COVID-19 cases in the area and South Carolina.

North Carolina also is reporting a continuing surge in cases.

The Triangle and other Apple stores were closed in mid-March. The Durham and Raleigh outlets had never reopened.

“Due to current Covid-19 conditions in some of the communities we serve, we are temporarily closing stores in these areas. We take this step with an abundance of caution as we closely monitor the situation and we look forward to having our teams and customers back as soon as possible,” an Apple spokesman said in a statement last week.
