RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Tech giant Cisco has been ordered to pay $1.9 billion to Virginia-based Centripetal Networks after losing a patent trial.

Cisco says it will appeal.

The decision came after a month-long trial conducted virtually. Cisco infringed four patents, the judge in the case ruled on Monday

“The fact that Cisco released products with Centripetal’s functionality within a year of these meetings goes beyond mere coincidence,” the judge said, according to Bloomberg news.

Cisco operates one of its largest corporate campuses in RTP.
