RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Vehicle maintenance startup Get Spiffy is expanding its services again, this time offering on-demand charging for electric vehicles through SparkCharge, which recently secured funding from Mark Cuban and Lori Greiner after an appearance on “SharkTank.”
“We’re starting in [the Triangle, Charlotte and Atlanta] and will scale it up from there based on demand,” says GetSpiffy CEO Scot Wingo of the pilot project announced Tuesday.
“There’s a lot of consumer and fleet use cases we can see happening and we’re excited to see what customers are looking for with the launch.”
The charge-ups come via “The Roadie” which is designed to address “the problem of lack of EV charging infrastructure and gives people the freedom to charge where and when they want,” the companies say.
“The system is a Level 3 ultrafast charger, capable of delivering 1 mile every 60 seconds. That’s up to 8x faster than most wired chargers.”
In a statement, Wingo says “We are always looking for partners in our mission to disrupt the automotive industry. The SparkCharge team is addressing a huge barrier to EV adoption through modular portable charging, and we are thrilled to be on that journey with them … There’s a clear connection between our delivery of car care when and where you want it and the Roadie promise of EV charging where and when you need it.”
Get Spiffy has added a series of new services this year as part of its “Vehicle 2.0” plan.
