DURHAM – SJF Ventures is raising $175 million in new equity and has already closed on nearly $90 million, according to a securities filing.

The venture capital fund which focuses on societal impact investments, not just for profits, has raised at least two other funds since launching in 1999 according to Crunchbase.

Already 122 investors have put money into the fund, the filing notes.

It’s the latest big fund being raised by Triangle area VC funds, including Hatteras Venture Partners and Bull City Ventures.

“SJF Ventures invests in high-growth companies creating a healthier, smarter and cleaner future. Our mission is to catalyze the development of highly successful businesses driving lasting, positive changes,” the firm says.

Investment targets include:

  • Supply Chain & Circular Economy
  • Food
  • Education & Employment
  • Health & Wellness
  • Consumer & Enterprise Software

The firm has made some 70 investments.

It also has offices in San Francisco and New York.
