RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Amazon is giving you the chance to put some artificial intelligence on your wrist as part of a new health service.

The Amazon Halo Band and app services launched Monday.

“The new app offers a suite of AI-powered health features that provide actionable insights into overall wellness and the accompanying Amazon Halo Band uses multiple sensors to accurately capture important health metrics,” Amazon says.

The Halo app has five core features, according to Amazon:

  • Activity: Amazon Halo goes beyond counting steps to measure the intensity and duration of your activity, as well as your sedentary time. Then it helps you track it all against a weekly goal of 150 points based on recommendations from the American Heart Association.
  • Sleep: The app measures the quality and quantity of your sleep, including time spent in the various phases of sleep, skin temperature while sleeping, and more—all without having to charge your band every day.
  • Body: Body fat percentage is a better measure of overall health than weight or body mass index (BMI) alone. With Halo you can measure your body fat percentage from the comfort and privacy of your own home with nearly twice the accuracy of leading at-home smart scales.
  • Tone: Health includes not only physical, but also social and emotional well-being. This app can help you understand how you sound to others, so you can improve your communication and relationships.
  • Lab: Try workouts, meditations, and challenges from experts on our team, as well as from SWEAT, WW, Headspace, the American Heart Association, and others to turn information into action and see the measurable changes you’re looking for across activity, sleep, mindfulness, and more.

The Halo retails for $99.99, which includes the band and six months of service.

The Halo service is $3.99 per month.
