CARY – A three-person team of Fortnite players participating in the Fortnite Champion Series was set to compete in the grand finals of the North American East Region this weekend, but that was before a now-infamous tweet.

The trio was disqualified due to comments shared by one member of the team, “Wrigley,” in a tweet on March 15.

The tweet, now deleted (along with the entire user account), was directed at the Chief Creative Officer at Epic Games, Donald Mustard, and contained profanity and the phrase “k!ll your$elf @DonaldMustard.”

Teammates Dictate and Userz were disqualified, and received notice of that disqualification on Saturday, according to a screenshot shared publicly on Twitter by @DICTATING, the Twitter handle of player Dictate.

That notice reads:

“We are writing to inform you of your team’s disqualification and removal from the Chapter 2 Season 5 FNCS competition, effective immediately. Based on an internal investigation, a member of your team has violated Section 8.1.2 of the official rules.”

The team forfeits any and all of the guaranteed prize money they would have been set to receive, including up to $3 million, regardless of their placement in the tournament event.  The prize pool for the North American East region is $690,000, and the leaderboard can be accessed online.

Dictate and Userz have attempted to appeal the ruling, according to reporting from Eurogamer that described Dictate as requesting the equivalent prize money for finishing in last place and Userz suggesting the team ought to have been allowed to find a last-minute substitute player to compete as the third member of the trio.
