United Airlines is bringing back service between RDU International Airport and San Francisco in July.
The airline announced the restoration of service as part of a big rampup in flights as business continues to recover from the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are adding a route from San Francisco to Raleigh in July. We have not flown this route since before the pandemic and are excited to bring it back,” a United spokesperson told WRAL TechWire.
According to United’s website, a flight is available from San Francisco to RDU as of July 8 for as low as $348 round trip.
The United move is the latest by airlines to ramp up RDU service. American and JetBlue are adding new nonstops, and RDU is adding another airline – Sun Country – this month.
RDU now lists 38 nonstop and two international flights compared to 57 nonstops and five international destinations before the pandemic.
Eleven airlines now service RDU with more than 400 flights daily.
“This July we’re taking a big step toward flying at pre-pandemic levels for our domestic network,” said Ankit Gupta, vice president of domestic network planning and scheduling at United, in announ cing the increase in flights. “By adjusting our bank structures at two key hub airports, we’re able to offer our customers easy connections to destinations across the U.S. so they can start their vacations at times convenient for them.”
United is adding more than 400 flights to its July daily schedule.
The airline said books for the summer are up 214% from last year and added it will have restored 80% of its 2019 US flying schedule by July.
United also is increasing service to some European destinations.
