WILMINGTON – The ninth season of the Emmy-nominated docuseries, Start Up (http://www.startup-usa.com/) will highlight the struggles and victories of entrepreneurs in Wilmington, N.C., Savannah, Ga., and Charleston, S.C.
“We’re eager to show that coastal entrepreneurs can be innovative and think beyond tourism and seasonal-based service jobs,” said Jim Roberts, founder of the Wilmington Angels for Local Entrepreneurs, or WALE, a group of local angel investors who invest in local companies, in a story published by the public radio station WHQR, which is based in Wilmington.
“Wilmington is now globally ranked as one of the top 100 Emerging Global Ecosystems, with the success of companies like nCino and UnTappd, and we hope to put a spotlight on the future companies in the region on the show,” said Roberts.
The eighth season featured businesses based in Michigan, and contained 13 episodes, airing beginning in October 2020. The docuseries founder and host, Gary Bredow, owns several businesses in the Detroit area.
“There’s something really incredible happening in both large cities and small towns,” writes Bredow on his project’s website. “People are fed up with constraints of traditional employment, and they’re taking back control of their lives. There’s a wave of confidence sweeping across America, giving people the courage to get up and chase their dreams.”
