DURHAM – TeraRecon, an advanced visualization and solution provider in the field of medical imaging, whose technology uses artificial intelligence the company says enables enhanced patient care, is under new leadership, as Dan McSweeney has been appointed as president of the company.
TeraRecon was acquired by SymphonyAI last year, and in the announcement, the company noted it was given a charter “to establish a new portfolio of healthcare AI solutions focused on medical imaging.”
TeraRecon’s CEO Jeff Sorenson stepped down from the company in January, and the chairman of SymphonyAI, Dr. Romesh Wadhwani, assumed the role of interim CEO. Sorenson remained on the company’s board of directors and is an advisor to TeraRecon’s parent company, Symphony AI, according to a statement issued by the company.
The company’s flagship product, Intuition, was named a 2020 and 2021 Best in KLAS segment winner for advanced visualization, beating out products from companies like Vital, Siemens, GE, and Phillips, to take the top spot.
McSweeney will be tasked with continuing, and expanding, the company’s leadership in healthcare advanced visualization and enterprise artificial intelligence, the company stated. His background includes 18 years at GE Capital and GE Healthcare, as an executive, and also a leadership position at Wolters Kluwer Health.
At the time of acquisition, TeraRecon technology was used by more than 900 health systems across the globe, the company noted in a statement, and the company was expected to accelerate the use of AI in other clinical specialties beyond radiology, cardiology, and vascular surgery.
