CARY – SAS is joining the growing number of companies requiring employees to be vaccinated before returning to work in offices. Those who are not vaccinated will continue working remotely, the company said Friday.

“At this time, we are hoping to fully reopen SAS world headquarters on September 7, 2021. At that time, we will welcome vaccinated employees back onsite to work,” said SAS spokesperson Shannon Heath. “As always we will continue to monitor the situation and that date is subject to change.”

She added: “At this time, unvaccinated employees are asked to continue working remotely.”

SAS employs some 5,200 people at its Cary headquarters, making it one of the largest private sector employers in the Triangle.

“Like many companies, we are requiring employees to be vaccinated to return to the office in our efforts to keep everyone safe and healthy as we re-enter the workplace,” Heath explained in response to an inquiry from WRAL TechWire. “Public health experts are encouraging citizens to get fully vaccinated to protect our communities against the coronavirus, particularly the Delta variant.”

Heath also said SAS would continue to “provide employees with flexibility” in terms of combining work-from-home and a return to offices.

“We will be encouraging employees to work in the office 2-3 days per week to allow for collaboration and opportunities to connect with co-workers while also providing employees the autonomy to work remotely and more easily balance work/life responsibilities,” Heath said.

SAS will “follow CDC guidelines and closely monitor the situation in our state and adjust our policies accordingly,” she added.
