DURHAM – IQVIA will lay off 232 employees, according to a North Carolina Department of Commerce Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (NC WARN) report.

In a letter filed with the Department of Commerce, dated August 10, the company states “these separations are the result of the cessation of operations in the U.S. in certain business units associated with a particular customer contract.”

The layoffs will be permanent, the company’s letter states.  The letter is signed by John Earwood, Assistant General Counsel.  WRAL TechWire has reached out for more information.

The letter states that the layoffs are expected to be permanent, and will take place between October 10-24.

IQVIA employs some 70,000 people worldwide. It has headquarters in Durham and Connecticut.

“Some of the affected employees neither reside nor work in North Carolina,” the letter states.  “This notice is being provided as a courtesy since the separations of remote employees in the impacted unit(s) may not meet the requirements dictating notice under the WARN Act,” the letter states.

The letter describes the employees affected by the layoffs as “remote/outstationed employees who may been assigned to, receive work assignments from, and/or report into its facility located at 4820 Emperor Blvd., Durham, NC 27703.”

That building is an IQVIA headquarters location.

IQVIA is currently hiring more than 900 positions globally, according to its careers website, and 137 jobs are listed on the company’s website as being based in Durham, with 202 jobs listed as being based in North Carolina.

The company reported net income of $175 million in the second-quarter, according to prior reporting from WRAL TechWire, experiencing “exceptional organic revenue growth,” according to the company CEO Ari Bousbib.
