RALEIGH – Even in the Triangle, not all mobile device users can connect to 4G or 5G internet. That may not matter.
An analyst is saying that Apple’s iPhone 13 will enable those users to make calls and send messages, even in areas that don’t have access to reliable 4G or 5G connectivity. Macrumors first reported on the statements of anallyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
The technology that will enable users to use the iPhone 13 involves the ability to connect to a network of low earth orbit satellites, Macrumors explained. That will be possible even without a 4G or 5G cellular connection, according to the publication.
Specifically, the technology involved is the inclusion of “a customized Qualcomm X60 baseband chip,” Macrumors states. Low earth orbit satellite communications provider Globalstar is purportedly in collaboration with Qualcomm to support the n53 band in future baseband chips, MacRumors noted.
Kuo described Apple’s stance on this type of connectivity as “optimistic,” MacRumors added.
