RALEIGH – Science 37, Inc., a life science company focusing on clinical trials, is moving its headquarters to Morrisville from Culver City, Calif. and bringing along with it some 250 jobs paying an average minimum wage of more than $114,000.
The firm struck an agreement with the state of North Carolina’s Department of Commerce for tax incentives in the form of payroll tax rebates totalling more than $3 million in new job creation targets are met.
It is also expected to retain more than 90 jobs already available at its operations in North Carolina, according to details disclosed by the state’s Economic Investment Commitee at a meeting Tuesday morning. Overall the firm has some 500 employees as well as numerous open positions, several of which are in the Triangle.
“The Science 37 model has enabled clinical trial sponsors to accelerate enrollment, retain patients longer and attract a more representative patient population, which has led to tremendous growth for our company,” said David Coman, Chief Executive Officer of Science 37, in a later announcement. “Establishing our headquarters in the Research Triangle, a magnet for biopharmaceutical innovation, will enable Science 37 to continue grow; attracting and retaining top talent dedicated to accelerating research and enabling access for patients and providers, anywhere.”
Science 37 said it would invest $1.5 million in the headquarters.
Morrisville Mayor TJ Cawley welcomed the news.
“This announcement confirms Morrisville’s position as a hub for life science innovation here in the United States,” Cawley said in a statement. “We are eager to support Science 37 as they use their innovative technologies to quickly and effectively bring new treatments to market to enhance quality of life for all.”
Jobs coming to the Triangle include administrative, legal, finance, information technology and some clinical positions.
Other incentives for Science 37 include community college training valued at $625,000.
The company also considered Atlanta for its new headquarters. Quality of life, North Carolina’s business environment and the incentives were among the factors Science 37 considered in picking the Triangle, according to Commerce.

Science 37 focuses on technology to deliver what it calls “agile clinical trials.”
Publicly traded (Nasdaq: SNCE), Science 37 recently expanded its reach to China and Russia.
Its technology “support today’s more agile clinical trials now available in nearly 95 countries and in more than 45 languages—ensuring a seamless user experience for a myriad of international stakeholders,” the company said in a recent news release.
“Configurable to enable almost any study type, the Science 37 OS enables up to 15x faster enrollment, 28% better retention and 3x more diverse patient population with industry-leading workflow orchestration, evidence generation and data harmonization,” the firm added.
