CARY – An outage of what Bloomberg News described as “Epic” hit Epic Games’ globally popular “Fortnite” on Wednesday, keeping players offline for some hours in the middle of its big “Winterfest” tournament.
Wednesday evening, the Fortnite team tweeted that service had been restored. But no insight was offered into what had happened.
Epic’s online “store” also suffered problems during the same time frame.
“Fortnite game servers are back online and the Winterfest continues!” Fortnite tweeted.
“We appreciate everyone’s understanding as we worked to resolve these issues and we’ll have more details next week on what we’re doing to help you make up for lost time.”
Fornite has some 350 million players, Bloomberg noted that the latest outage was one of several service problems players have had to endure in recent weeks.
Earlier Wednesday afternoon, Fornite told players: “We are investigating login, matchmaking and other issues.”
According to Epic’s status website, Fornite issues erupted around 4:16 p.m.
Epic said issues were “resolved” just before midnight EST.
The game store also was back online at the same time, Epic added.
